第八届国际离散元会议

荷兰特温特大学（UT）多尺度力学课题组（MSM）邀请计算力学、岩土工程、颗粒物理、纳米及粉末材料同行于2019年7月22-26日参加第八届离散元会议(DEM8)。国际离散元会议于1989年首次召开，每三年一届。前七届分别于美国Golden(1989)、美国Boston(1992)、美国Santa Fe(2002)、澳大利亚Brisbane(2007)、英国London(2010)、美国Golden(2013)和中国大连(2016)。会议主题、赞助及展览等详情请见网站mercurylab.co.uk/dem8。会议注册将于6月15日开放。

The minisymposia should be related to at least one of the following conference themes (list is still provisional):

1. Theory: Algorithms
   improvements and extensions to Event Driven (ED), Contact Dynamics (CD), Discrete Element Method (DEM), etc,
   including high-performance algorithms, upscaling, micro-macro, coarse-graining, contact detection, non-spherical particles
2. Theory: Contact modelling  
   constitutive contact laws
3. Theory: Continuum methods
   including upscale continuum methods and particle-based continuum solvers such as Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM), Finite-Discrete Element Method (FDEM)
4. Theory: Discrete-continuum coupling
   including discrete-discrete, particle-fluid (CFD-DEM), multiscale coupling
   
5. Experimentation
   including DEM-related experiments (characterisation, calibration, and validation)
6. General
   including open-source codes, education and out-reach
7. Application: Fracture, breakage and failure
8. Application: Granular solids 
   including packing and jamming
9. Application: Granular flow
   including avalanches, landslides and segregation/segregation mobility feedback
10. Application: Granular gases
    including vibrofluidised and segregating systems
11. Application: Powder technology
    including industrial applications, nano-granular materials
12. Application: Geotechnical & geophysical
    including civil engineering applications, mining, marine and coastal engineering, geomaterials
13. Application: Construction
    including masonry structures
14. Application: Conveying and bulk solid handling
    including industrial applications
15. Application: Biomaterials
    including life-science, soil-root/plant interactions, reactive powders
16. Application: Particles and fluid
    including suspensions, wet grains, wet granulation, spray drying, slurries
17. Application: High tech
    including additive manufacturing, nanotechnology
18. Application: Extraterrestrial environments
    including planetary science, microgravity

Note, the listed subtopics are not meant to exclude other submissions. That is, “including” is short for “including but not limited to”.
