Vector-borne diseases are a major concern of global public health and result in significant economic losses. These parasitic, bacterial and viral pathogens transmitted by blood-feeding arthropods are etiological agents of many severe human diseases. In China, several emerging and re-emerging vector-borne diseases pose a national threat to the public health. From 2013 to 2014, a Dengue outbreak occurred in several provinces of southern China, resulting in more than 50,000 cases, thousands of cases with apparent clinical symptoms and 6 deaths. A lethal tick-borne viral fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome was recently found in northeast and central China and was responsible for a number of deaths. Besides, malaria, lyme disease, Japanese encephalitis and other vector-borne diseases are endemic in some regions of China.
Intensive research on these diseases has offered substantial information for drug discovery and disease prevention. This conference will bring together outstanding multidisciplinary scientists on vector-borne disease research worldwide, aims to establish a platform for discussion and exchange of new concepts and the latest technologies, and to bridge close interactions between Chinese scientists and the international science community. Moreover, the meeting will provide an opportunity of communications among the Chinese government officials, the funding agency leadership, international experts and local scientists. Topics covered by the conference include recent advances on pathogen-host interactions, pathogen-vector interactions, vector biology & informatics, structural virology, drug development, therapeutics and prophylactics.
