Introduction

The 21^st century has seen a rapid development and application of new technologies in particular in the fields of biotechnology, electronics, and new materials. This may benefit for the development of novel approaches and technologies for environmental monitoring, control of complex environment pollution, and regeneration of wastes. Addressing new opportunities and challenges in the field of environmental science and engineering, the State Key Joint Laboratory of Environment Simulation and Pollution Control (SKJLEPSC) will hold the 3^rd International Conference on Environmental Simulation and Pollution Control on November 7-8 in Beijing, China. The conference will provide a platform for discussion among researchers, engineers, managers, and decision-makers. Key scientists will be invited to give plenary presentations reviewing major advances and challenges of the research in environmental science and engineering. The conference is held every two years.

About SKJLESPC

The State Key Joint Laboratory of Environment Simulation and Pollution Control was established in 1995 and is now one of the top laboratories in the field of environmental science and engineering in China. The laboratory is supported by Tsinghua University, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, and Beijing Normal University.  The main research field includes: environmental monitoring methods, behaviors and effects of pollutants, theories and technologies for water security in water recycling, air pollution complex control, and watershed/regional environmental quality improvement. The Laboratory has now 150 academic faculty members, five of which are the members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.  About 1200 scientific papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals in last three years.
